Hi, we did this last year and it was successful. We got students to perform scenes from the play and we viewed the film to help them to understand it. We actually did some writing tasks as the characters because the language was quite difficult fo...
Show them the film. It is pretty true to the play and reinforces the concepts and ideas, also highlighting events they may have missed and making it easier to understand since they can see the reactions and responses to the conflic more clearly. W...
Yes, we have just finished teaching The Crucible. We did it in two parts - part a was just an ordinary writing folio piece on conflict (it needed to link to The Crucible in 'some' way) and part b was a piece that was 'directly' related to The Crucible and the piece needed to directly quote the text too... That's how we have done it and we have got some really nice pieces. What are you planning to do?
Thanks Louise. "Secret River" is a wonderful text, but what worries me is the Context stuff. We need to respond to various prompts ourselves using different writing styles, before we start teaching context. We can also ask some of our students to repond to prompts and use it as models for our class discussions.
I am looking forward to working on this section on the study design. I certainly gives students a lot more choice in the way that they do their own writing. I wonder if anyone has considered using technology to present student work. Last year we allowed students to blog and create hyperfiction. There will be some interesting things to discuss in regards to this, but it would be good to at least consider it. What do you think?
